Reward backing and holds

Learn how funded obligations, pending decisions, and temporary holds protect a Member promise.

A published funded reward should be backed by a real obligation, not an optimistic counter. Backing means the campaign or community has committed enough value under the active terms.

That does not make every submission payable. The Member still needs a qualifying decision, and the reward may pass through pending or held states before it becomes available.

What a hold means

A hold temporarily prevents the next value transition while a required check, dispute, or safety review is unresolved. It should have:

  • a recorded reason;
  • an owner or decision path;
  • a visible state;
  • a review or expiry rule;
  • a final outcome.

A hold is not a hidden rejection. If the underlying completion remains valid, the reward should continue from the correct state once the hold is cleared.

The platform must conserve value across funding, approval, reversal, refund, and payment. Reports should not count held or failed transitions as completed payments.
